Sophia Labonte, M.A.
Sophia Labonte is a Registered Psychotherapist and supervisor for psychotherapy trainees. She comes with an array of experience and training, having worked in the field for over 20 years. Sophia's education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology.
Her areas of focus are adults, parenting, trauma work, and couples.
Her couple and individual work is heavily influenced by:
- Relational Life Therapy (RLT-Level 1 and Level 2)
- Psychological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT, based on attachment styles)
- Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Trauma and Attachment Focused Therapy
Sophia is certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a form of exposure therapy used in the treatment of anxiety, trauma, PTSD and relational trauma.
She is passionate about helping people reach their goals of self-fulfilment and believes in empowering with kindness and positive regard. She worked 15 years for an Indigenous agency giving her extensive experience supporting families, parents, children, teens, and individuals from a trauma-informed, attachment, holistic and intergenerational therapeutic lens.
Being in an intercultural marriage and raising two boys has also shaped her approach. She enjoys helping couples reconnect and break free from negative patterns. Sophia can provide services in both French and English.
